Sermon #13 — The Doctrine of God, Pt. 4: The Image
Our own identity is tied intimately into the identity of God. We bear the image of the living God. In the person of God, we see the root and origin of our own identity — broken and distorted though it may be because of our fall in to sin. In ourselves, we see the imperfect but nonetheless true representation of the living God.
Here in this sermon, I examine some of what this all might mean for us. The scripture passage from which I work here is Genesis 1:26-31.
“[I]t is evident that man never attains to a true self-knowledge until he have previously contemplated the face of God, and come down after such contemplation to look into himself.” John Calvin, Institutes, I.i.2
